Florence Eliza Main was born 3 August 1866 in Hankins, Sullivan County, New York, the daughter of Zalmon Smith Main and Mary Hankins. She married William Albert Martin (1866-1937), son of William Albert Martin and Eliza A Barker on 12 May 1898 in Binghamton, Broome County, New York. She died on 15 May 1940 in Los Angeles, California. Florence Main was Mary Jane Kellam's husband William Lucas Hankins' first cousin.

Ralph William Hankins 1927
Ralph William Hankins was born on 5 August 1927 in New York City. He was adopted in 1928 by Francis William Hankins and Evelyn Clara Call. Ralph died on 21 August 1997 in Schwenksville, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He was Mary Jane Kellam's oldest grandson.

Sarah Carroll, Port Jervis NY
Possibly Sarah Shaver who married Dr. Oren A. Carroll in Andes, Delaware County, New York. They lived in Port Jervis, Orange County, New York starting 1868. She may have been born in 1822 and may have died in 1908. Mary Jane Kellam's husband's mother was a Shaver from Andes, Delaware County so this may be a family connection noted in the birthday book.

Mary Lukins   Hankins, NY  1817
Mary Kellam, daughter of John Kellam and Jane Ross, who was born in 1817. She married Derrick Lukens (1811-1871). Mary Kellam Lukens died on 3 September 1886. In 1870, the Lukens family lived in Bethel, Sullivan County, New York. In 1880, Mary, a widow, was living with her daughter Carmoitha and son-in-law Paul Ross in Manchester, Wayne County, Pennsylvania. According to her gravestorn, Mary was age 69 years and 16 days old when she died, which calculates to a birthdate of 18 August 1817. Mary Kellam Lukens was Mary Jane Kellam's paternal aunt.

Mrs. Paulina Davis    Long Eddy
There appear to have been two Mrs. Paulina Davis' in Sullivan County, New York in the second half of the nineteenth century. One was married to Robert, the other to Simon. Census records place both in Fallsburgh, Long Eddy is in Fremont. so I don't know which (if either) Paulina Davis this refers to.

My Grandmother's Recipes - Sandwiches

   I recently received a set of recipe cards from a cousin that were written by out grandmother Evelyn Clara (Call) Hankins, probably between 1920 (when she married) and 1962 (when she died). My grandmother was born in Wichita, Sedgewick, Kansas in 1895. Within a few months of her birth, the family moved back to Stafford, Genesee County, New York where her parents, Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939) and Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956) were born. Evelyn lived in Stafford on the family farm until she left for college, first at Northwestern University in Chicago and then at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She graduated from Cornell in 1919 with a degree in Home Economics. After graduating, she worked for a year at Wells College in Aurora, Cayuga, New York, possibly as the Superintendent of a Dormitory, as a housekeeper or as a teacher.   The fifteenth photo in the album is Mary Ellen (Ross) Hankins (1835-1914), wife of Lucas Wurtz Hankins.  Mary Ellen Ross was born 25 August 1835 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Ross (1791-1837) and Sarah Kellam (1797-after 1850). She married Lucas Wurtz Hankins (1831-1910), son of John Hankins (1803-1847) and Susan Thomas (1811-1885) on 5 August 1857 at the home of Benjamin Tyler. Lucas and Mary Ellen had three children: Laura Ardella (1858-1859) Howard Ross (1863-1922) married first Emma M. Adding a Citation to a Document using Photoshop Elements 2023

This is the first is an occasional series of blog posts on using Photoshop Elements 2023 for genealogists. Many of my genealogist friends know I'm also a photographer, so have asked me how I do some things with genealogy-related images. The problem is - I use Photoshop and Lightroom - which are probably overkill for most genealogists, and are a subscription-based package. I used to recommend Irfanview (and still do for some things) but I was finding it hard to do some of what I do in Photoshop in Irfanview.  So enter Photoshop Elements 2023 - it has more features than Irfanview but isn't as user-hostile as Photoshop can be. And it's available for purchase as a stand-alone package - no monthly subscription fees!
