Thurs Oct 17. Meeting of the Woman's Society here. Helen and Jerry came to visit for a couple of days.  Tues 22. Edith has had the children help pick up six bushels of walnuts. She spreads them on the ground and runs the car over them to husk them. There are nearly three bushels husked.  Thurs 24. Thelma and the children took me to Arthur's. The next day, Oct 25th Robert Olin  and Patricia Sullivan  were married  at Fenwick, Ont. They were married in the home of the Bride's grandmother, Mrs Eastman  Most of these were at the  wedding, - very fine, intelligent appearing. The house was nicely decorated. There was an elaborately decorated wedding cake. Patricia's great grandfather and grandfather were buried from this house. Her mother and aunt were married here, and Patricia was born here. It is owned by Mrs Eastman whose husband was a Lake-boat captain. They are fine appearing Christian people. The Canadian Relatives could not go across the river without a passport, whi

Loss - The Schickler Family of Ludwigsburg - Week 12 of #52Ancestors

Looking through my family tree, it wasn't uncommon for a married couple to lose several children at a young age, or for either the husband or wife to die while there were still young children in the house.  One sad story in my tree, my great-great-grandparents Gottlieb Wilhelm Schickler and Marie Frederike Haufler may be the saddest loss story of all.  1846, November 30   Marie Frederike Haufler was born in Marbach, Wurttemburg, the oldest child of Gottlob Friedrich Haufler (1820-1899) and Christine Catherine Haas (1819-????). 1848, April 18 Gottlieb Wilhelm Schickler was born in Ludwigsbugb, Wurtttemburg, the second child and oldest son of Jacob Schickler (1816-????) and Louise Gikeleitner (1826-????) 1873, February 11  Gottlieb Wilhelm Schickler and Marie Frederike Haufler married in Ludwigsburg Ancestry.com.  Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials, 1500-1985  [database on-line]. Summer at Silver Bay - 1918 - pages 115-119

I'm very lucky to have several of my grandmother Evelyn Clara Call's (1895-1962) photo albums. And perhaps even luckier that she labeled many of the photos - so I know roughly when and where they were taken, and who was in the photos.  My grandmother attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1915-1916, and then Cornell University in Ithaca, New York from 1916-1919.  Starting on page 115, there are 19 pages of photos from the summer of 1918 taken at Silver Bay, likely where Evelyn was a staff member at the YMCA Center at Silver Bay.  Page 115 has photographs of what appears to be staff members at Silver Bay Charlie  "Teddy"   Wilma  Hector "Daddy"   Merritt    "Pete"    Charlie Hector   Evelyn   Arnold Pete   Arnold   Jere   Hector Page 117 is a photograph of the Cornell delegation at Silver Bay 1918  Evelyn Clara Call is in the middle of the back row Page 117 has more photographs of what appear to be staff members at Silver Bay

Name's the Same - 16 Bezaleels (and counting) - Week 10 of #52Ancestors

The theme for week 10 of Amy Johnson Crow's #52Ancestors project is Name's the Same. In week three - when the theme was Namesake I wrote about the 11 Ralph Hankins' in my tree. The same side of my family includes at least 16 men named Bezaleel - all descended from the first one.  Generation 1 Bezaleel Tyler , son of Charles Tyler and Rebecca Potter, born in 1683 in Branford, New Haven County, Connecticut, died in Sharon, Litchfield County, Connecticut on August 29, 1760. He and his wife Abigail Johnson (1692-1760) married on January 23 1711/12 in Branford and had at least 10 children.  Generation 2 Bezaleel Tyler , son of Bezaleel Tyler and Abigail Johnson, born November 6, 1716, Branford, New Haven County, Connecticut, died June 29, 1796, Cochecton, Ulster County, New York. He married Sarah Calkins (1725-1791) on February 24, 1742 and had at least 15 children. Some histories claim 22 children but only 15 have been identified Generation 3 Bezaleel Tyler , son of Bezalee
