I'm very lucky to have several of my grandmother Evelyn Clara Call's (1895-1962) photo albums. And perhaps even luckier that she labeled many of the photos - so I know roughly when and where they were taken, and who was in the photos.  My grandmother attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1915-1916, and then Cornell University in Ithaca, New York from 1916-1919.  Page 97 has photographs of the Mannix family farm in Le Roy, New York.  There were photographs of the Mannix family on pages 91-93 in the album Pages 98-100 appear to all be photos of a trip to Niagara Falls in May 1918 Page 98 ?, Norris, Fry Page 99 Norris, LeFevre and Fry Page 100   Miles Fry (Cornell 20) Miles Fry - Miles William Fry (1898-1982), son of Jacob Fry and Maggie Ruth,  earned a degree in Agriculture from Cornell in 1920.  Interestingly, Miles seems to have lied on his World War I draft registration form and on his military records. He claimed a birthdate of 1897 - his baptismal record

Favorite Photo - Christmas Dinner, 1916 - Week 4 of #52Ancestors

Last year, the theme for week 2 was Favorite Photo and I had no problems deciding what to write about - the photo of the six Joslin siblings taken in 1904 at Robert Call and Charlotte Joslin's Golden Wedding anniversary celebration.  A year later - when Favorite Photo was announced as theme for week 4 I had a much harder time deciding on which photo to share. I've spent more hours than I can count digitizing and sharing family photos in the past year. So oftentimes my favorite photo is probably the most recent one I've researched.  But as I thought about the theme for this week - I kept coming back to a photograph in my Grandmother Evelyn Clara Call's photo album from college covering the years 1915-1919. The photo was taken on Christmas Day, 1916 and shows a scene that anyone who ever attending a family gathering with a meal is familiar with - the kids table! In the album, the photo is labeled Irving, Floyd, Laura, Albert, James , Evelyn From other photographs, I reco

As I did a little research to figure out who he was, I found some interesting documents so decided to write a blog post just about Dick Thackery Bouquet of Cotton Dickie In Georgia As I looked at the photos - my first questions were Who is Dick Thackery? Why are there photos of him in my grandmother's photo album? And was she in Georgia to take the photos?  I could only find a few records for him as Richard Thackery. When I found one record with an alternate spelling of Thackray - suddenly there were plenty

Namesake - 11 Ralph Hankinses in the Family Tree - Week 3 of #52Ancestors

As I researched my ancestors, I realized there were a lot of men with Ralph as their first or middle name. Most it turned out were descendants of Ralph Hankins (1776-1863), first of my Hankins line to settle in New York or Pennsylvania.  So for this week's theme of Namesake I thought I'd talk about all 11 Ralphs in my Hankins family tree.  1. Ralph Hankins . Born Feb 29, 1776, in New Jersey (probably in Hunterdon County), son of Richard Hankins and Elizabeth Pinkerton. Ralph married four times. Ralph died on Sept. 9, 1863 in Tusten, Sullivan County, New York. Census records place Ralph in Lumberland, Ulster County, New York in 1800, Lackawaxan, Wayne County, Pennsylvania in 1810, Pike County, PA in 1820 and 1830, Lackawaxan, Pike County in 1840 and 1850, and Tusten, Sullivan County, NY in 1860.  Ralph first married ______ Lambert, who died in Tusten in 1796 along with their baby.  Ralph married second, Mary Dougherty (born between 1775-1784 based on age in census records, died
