Visit to Niagara Falls - May 1917 - Pages 97-100

I'm very lucky to have several of my grandmother Evelyn Clara Call's (1895-1962) photo albums. And perhaps even luckier that she labeled many of the photos - so I know roughly when and where they were taken, and who was in the photos.

My grandmother attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1915-1916, and then Cornell University in Ithaca, New York from 1916-1919.

Page 97 has photographs of the Mannix family farm in Le Roy, New York.

There were photographs of the Mannix family on pages 91-93 in the album

Pages 98-100 appear to all be photos of a trip to Niagara Falls in May 1918

Miles Fry (Cornell 20)

Miles Fry - Miles William Fry (1898-1982), son of Jacob Fry and Maggie Ruth,  earned a degree in Agriculture from Cornell in 1920.

Interestingly, Miles seems to have lied on his World War I draft registration form and on his military records. He claimed a birthdate of 1897 - his baptismal record and the 1900 census have him born in 1898. Men over the age of 21 were required to register for the draft in 1917 and 1918 - Miles wasn't going to be 21 until 1919. He did use his actual date of birth of 1898 when he registered for the World War II draft. I've seen several other cases where males shifted their birthdate by a year or two, often to make themselves old enough to register for the draft.
