Summer at Silver Lake - 1917 - pages 80-84
I'm very lucky to have several of my grandmother Evelyn Clara Call's (1895-1962) photo albums. And perhaps even luckier that she labeled many of the photos - so I know roughly when and where they were taken, and who was in the photos.
My grandmother attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1915-1916, and then Cornell University in Ithaca, New York from 1916-1919.
She appears to have spent time at Silver Lake, Wyoming County, New York during the summer of 1917. The Call family owned at least cottage at Silver Lake (originally purchased by Charlotte Joslin Call in 1886). Beginning in the 1870s, Methodists gathered at Silver Lake for camp meetings. Over the years, these camp meetings evolved into the Silver Lake Institute (for religious, educational and cultural events) and then into a summer cottage community.
These pages have photos of her summer at Silver Lake
