More Friends and Family - c 1917-1918 - pages 85 - 90

 I'm very lucky to have several of my grandmother Evelyn Clara Call's (1895-1962) photo albums. And perhaps even luckier that she labeled many of the photos - so I know roughly when and where they were taken, and who was in the photos. 

My grandmother attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1915-1916, and then Cornell University in Ithaca, New York from 1916-1919.

Charlotte - Might be Charlotte Louise Daniels (1893-1958) daughter of Walter Scott Daniels and Elizabeth Alberta Call - first cousin of Evelyn Clara Call

Bertram - Might be Betram Thornwaite Jones (1896-1948) son of William Thornwaite Jones and Minnie Steen. William was the son of Ann Joslin, sister of Charlotte Joslin mother of Charles Joslin Call and Elizabeth Alberta Call - second cousin of Evelyn Clara Call

Bob - Robert Vincent Call (1892-1961) son of Charles Joslin Call and Elizabeth Ann Coe

May - I don't have a good theory for who May is

Irving - Irving Joslyn Call (1900-1995) son of Charles Joslin Call and Elizabeth Ann Coe

Bud - Probably Roaslind Alberta Daniels (1897-1990) daughter of Walter Scott Daniels and Elizabeth Alberta Call. She was known as "Bud" short for Rosebud

Evelyn - Evelyn Clara Call (1895-1962) daughter of Charles Joslin Call and Elizabeth Ann Coe

Jane Stone -Jane Beverly Stone  (1898-1995) daughter of Louis Stone and Zella Behrman.  She graduated from Cornell in  1920 with a degree in Agriculture. She was from Syracuse, New York. 

Bernice Reynolds -   Bernice C. Reynolds (1896-1973) graduated from Cornell in 1920 with a degree in Agriculture. She was the daughter of Charles John Reynolds and Mary Ella Wilder.

Betty Cook - Elizabeth Rose Cook  (1898-1980) daughter of John Thomas Cook and Elizabeth Rose Hawley.  She was from Albany and earned a degree in Agriculture from Cornell in 1919. 

Anna Leonhart - Anna Margaret Leonhardt (1899-1989) daughter of Henry Leonhardt and Elizabeth Zimmer.   She was from Alexandria Bay and earned a degree in Arts and Sciences from Cornell in 1920. 

Helen Huie - Helen Pierson Huie (1899-1995) daughter of Kin Huie and Louisa Van Arnam. She was from New York City and earned a degree in Arts and Sciences from Cornell in 1920.

Helen Acomb - Helen McCurdy Acomb (1897-1990) daughter of William Acomb and Margaret McCurdy She was from Dansville and earned a degree in Agriculture from Cornell in 1920.

   I recently received a set of recipe cards from a cousin that were written by out grandmother Evelyn Clara (Call) Hankins, probably between 1920 (when she married) and 1962 (when she died). My grandmother was born in Wichita, Sedgewick, Kansas in 1895. Within a few months of her birth, the family moved back to Stafford, Genesee County, New York where her parents, Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939) and Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956) were born. Evelyn lived in Stafford on the family farm until she left for college, first at Northwestern University in Chicago and then at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She graduated from Cornell in 1919 with a degree in Home Economics. After graduating, she worked for a year at Wells College in Aurora, Cayuga, New York, possibly as the Superintendent of a Dormitory, as a housekeeper or as a teacher.   The fifteenth photo in the album is Mary Ellen (Ross) Hankins (1835-1914), wife of Lucas Wurtz Hankins.  Mary Ellen Ross was born 25 August 1835 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Ross (1791-1837) and Sarah Kellam (1797-after 1850). She married Lucas Wurtz Hankins (1831-1910), son of John Hankins (1803-1847) and Susan Thomas (1811-1885) on 5 August 1857 at the home of Benjamin Tyler. Lucas and Mary Ellen had three children: Laura Ardella (1858-1859) Howard Ross (1863-1922) married first Emma M. Adding a Citation to a Document using Photoshop Elements 2023

This is the first is an occasional series of blog posts on using Photoshop Elements 2023 for genealogists. Many of my genealogist friends know I'm also a photographer, so have asked me how I do some things with genealogy-related images. The problem is - I use Photoshop and Lightroom - which are probably overkill for most genealogists, and are a subscription-based package. I used to recommend Irfanview (and still do for some things) but I was finding it hard to do some of what I do in Photoshop in Irfanview.  So enter Photoshop Elements 2023 - it has more features than Irfanview but isn't as user-hostile as Photoshop can be. And it's available for purchase as a stand-alone package - no monthly subscription fees!
