Four Generations - 1905
This snapshot is labeled Four Generations, 1905 - with no names or locations! It is glued to the back of the paper that has the 1906 wedding cake and 1901 Frank Hankins photos.
Since those photos are clearly linked to my Hankins-Kellam line - and the buildings in the background look like they could be at Hankins, Sullivan County, New York. I looked in my database to see if I could find any families linked to the Hankins/Kellam families that had four generations of males living in 1905.
I found one possible set of four generations
The oldest (standing on the left) might be Benjamin Tyler - son of Benjamin Tyler and Sarah Kellam. He was born 6 October 1818 in Damascus, Wayne County, Pennsylvania and died 30 November 1913 in Hankins. He married his step-sister - Rosetta Ross, daughter of John Ross and Love Hurd in August 1839. Benjamin Tyler and Rosetta Ross were both half siblings of my great great grandmother Mary Ellen Ross, daughter of John Ross and Sarah Kellam. The only known photograph of Benjamin Tyler dates likely from the 1850s or 1860s - so 40-50 years before this one. It can be found at https://pattyhankins.blogspot.com/2023/10/benjamin-tyler-1818-1913.html
Benjamin and Rosetta's son Rufus R Tyler could be the man standing on the right. Rufus R Tyler was born 30 September 1840 in Damascus, Wayne County, Pennsylvania. He married Wealthy A. Lukens, daughter of Derrick Lukens and Mary Kellam, in 1868. Rufus died 17 January 1908 in Fremont, Sullivan County, New York. A photo of Rufus R. Tyler, likely from the 1860s, can be seen at https://pattyhankins.blogspot.com/2023/10/rufus-r-tyler-1840-1908.html.
Rufus and Wealthy's son Delezenne R Tyler could be the man seated on the right. Delezenne R Tyler was born 20 July 1869 in Damascus, Wayne County, Pennsylvania. He married Julia Ross, daughter of Elias Ross and Barilla Tyler, on 30 November 1892 in Fremont, Sullivan County. New York. Delezenne died on 3 October 1940 in Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York. A photo of Delezenne from the 1870s is at https://pattyhankins.blogspot.com/2023/10/delezenne-r-tyler-1869-1940.html.
Delezenne and Julia's son Howard could be the boy seated on the left. Howard Tyler was born 22 August 1895 in Manchester, Wayne County, Pennsylvania. He died 5 October 1959 in New York. I have no photos of Howard Tyler to compare with this one.
If this is the four Tyler men, then they were closely connected to my great-grandparents William Lucas Hankins and Mary Jane Kellam. Benjamin Tyler was William's half-uncle. Rufus was William's first cousin. And in 1875, Benjamin Tyler's family lived on one side of Mary Jane Kellam's family, while William's grandmother lived on the other side.
By any chance, does anyone have any photos of the four Tyler men that I can compare with this photo to see if it might be them?
