Philip Shaffer was born on December 11, 1795 in Dutchess County, New York, the son of Philip Shafer (1764 - 1838) an Catharina Eckert (1761-1837). He married Sarah Melvina Benedict (1805-1880) on 13 May 1824. He died on 21 September 1873 in New York. He was Mary Jane Kellam's maternal grandfather.

Francis M. Buckley was born 16 December 1840 in Wayne, Steuben County, New York, the son of James Buckley (1822-1906) and Mary Elizabeth Brace (1823-1897). He married Elizabeth Jones (1842-1885) and then Caroline Tunis (1852-1944). He died on 14 April 1917 in Sullivan County, New York, In 1880, Frank and his family were enumerated in Fremont, Sullivan County, New York, the same part of the county as Mary Jane Kellam and her parents were living.

Mary Helena McCabe was born 23 December 1873 in New York, the daughter of Levi B. McCabe (1828-1888) and Sarah C Shaver (1832-1900). She married George A Tooker (1874-1901) on 1 September 1897 in Andes, Delaware County, New York. She died on 27 January 1944 in Mercer County, West Virginia. She was Mary Jane Kellam's maternal first cousin.

Emadele Kellam  1921

Emadele Kellam was born 27 December 1921 in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York, the daughter of Frances Marion Kellam (1877-1952) and Minnie Ruth Spelman (1884-1957). She married Harold Addison Read (1922-2007) on 30 June 1944 in Groton, New York. She died on 14 January 2002 in Shelbourne, Chittenden County, Vermont. She was Mary Jane Kellam's niece.

Jane Ross was born 26 December 1801 in Cochecton, Sullivan County, New York, the daughter of John Ross (1759-1922) and Sophia Tyler (1767 - ????). She married John Kellam (1787-1874). She died on 23 February 1856. She was Mary Jane Kellam's paternal grandmother.

A.C. Shaffer  Davenport Ia

Andrew Cowen Shaffer was born 29 December 1839 in New York, the son of Philip Shafer and Sarah Melvina Benedict. He married Angelica Collier (1844-1922) on 25 December 1866 in Mercer County, Illinois. In 1900, the family lived in Davenport, Iowa. He died on 8 September 1907 in San Diego, California. He was Mary Jane Kellam's maternal uncle.

   I recently received a set of recipe cards from a cousin that were written by out grandmother Evelyn Clara (Call) Hankins, probably between 1920 (when she married) and 1962 (when she died). My grandmother was born in Wichita, Sedgewick, Kansas in 1895. Within a few months of her birth, the family moved back to Stafford, Genesee County, New York where her parents, Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939) and Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956) were born. Evelyn lived in Stafford on the family farm until she left for college, first at Northwestern University in Chicago and then at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She graduated from Cornell in 1919 with a degree in Home Economics. After graduating, she worked for a year at Wells College in Aurora, Cayuga, New York, possibly as the Superintendent of a Dormitory, as a housekeeper or as a teacher.   The fifteenth photo in the album is Mary Ellen (Ross) Hankins (1835-1914), wife of Lucas Wurtz Hankins.  Mary Ellen Ross was born 25 August 1835 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Ross (1791-1837) and Sarah Kellam (1797-after 1850). She married Lucas Wurtz Hankins (1831-1910), son of John Hankins (1803-1847) and Susan Thomas (1811-1885) on 5 August 1857 at the home of Benjamin Tyler. Lucas and Mary Ellen had three children: Laura Ardella (1858-1859) Howard Ross (1863-1922) married first Emma M. Adding a Citation to a Document using Photoshop Elements 2023

This is the first is an occasional series of blog posts on using Photoshop Elements 2023 for genealogists. Many of my genealogist friends know I'm also a photographer, so have asked me how I do some things with genealogy-related images. The problem is - I use Photoshop and Lightroom - which are probably overkill for most genealogists, and are a subscription-based package. I used to recommend Irfanview (and still do for some things) but I was finding it hard to do some of what I do in Photoshop in Irfanview.  So enter Photoshop Elements 2023 - it has more features than Irfanview but isn't as user-hostile as Photoshop can be. And it's available for purchase as a stand-alone package - no monthly subscription fees!
