I'm very lucky to have several of my grandmother Evelyn Clara Call's (1895-1962) photo albums. And perhaps even luckier that she labeled many of the photos - so I know roughly when and where they were taken, and who was in the photos. 

My grandmother attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1915-1916, and then Cornell University in Ithaca, New York from 1916-1919.

Page 177 has Call family photos from 1919, most likely taken at Prospect Farm in Stafford, Genesee County, New York.

Eileen Helen Alden Marion Robert

Eileen - Eileen Evelyn Jones (1919-2015) daughter of Malvern Smith Jones (1884-1937) and Edith Alberta Call (1889-1989). She married James Gordon Lye (1916-2000) in 1942. 

Helen - Helen Elizabeth Call (1910-1997) daughter of Charles Arthur Call (1885-1962) and Bertha May Hotchkiss (1882-1946). She married Robert Wilson Johnson (1910-1991) in 1931. 

Alden - Alden Malvern Jones (1915-2010), son of Malvern Smith Jones  and Edith Alberta Call. He married Marie Elizabeth Bennett (1917-2001) in 1940. 

Marion - Marion Amelia Call (1911-2000) daughter of Charles Arthur Call and Bertha May Hotchkiss. She married John Kay Strickland (1911-2007) in 1940. 

Robert - Robert Olin Call (1919-2000) son of Charles Arthur Call  and Bertha May Hotchkiss. He married Patricia Faye Sullivan (1921-1994) in 1940, and Grace Rosalie Scott (1914-1989) in 1959.

Dad - Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939) son of Robert Call (1831-1913) and Charlotte Joslin (1834-1908). He married Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956) in 1884.

Lucille - Lucille Alice Hale (1893-1996) daughter of Frank Herbert Hale and Amanda Carpenter Reynolds. She married Robert Vincent Call in 1919. 

Bob - Robert Vincent Call (1892-1961) son of Charles Joslin Call and Elizbaeth Ann Coe. He married Lucille Alice Hale in 1919. 

Berth - Bertha May Hotchkiss (1882-1946) daughter of Horatio Nelson Hotchkiss(1855-1938) and Carrie Adell VanName (1861-1944). She married Charles Arthur Call in 1909. 

Arthur - Charles Arthur Call (1885-1962), son of Charles Joslin Call and Elizabeth Ann Coe. He married Bertha May Hotchkiss in 1909. 

Edith - Edith Alberta Call (1889-1989) daughter of Charles Joslin Call and Elizabeth Ann Coe. She married Malvern Smith Jones in 1913. 

Malvern - Malvern Smith Jones (1884-1937) son of Daniel Southard Jones (1853-1923) and Ida May Gardiner (1856-1892). He married Edith Alberta Call in 1913. 

E.C.C. - Evelyn Clara Call (1895-1962) daughter of Charles Joslin Call and Elizabeth Ann Coe. She married Francis William Hankins (1897-1983) in 1920. 

Mother - Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956) daughter of Albert Coe (1827-1907) and Deborah Prentice (1833-1910). She married Charles Joslin Call in 1884. 

Irving - Irving Joslyn Call (1900-1995) son of Charles Joslin Call and Elizabeth Ann Coe. He married Thelma Louise Keitel (1905-1996) in 1927.

This week's prompt for  Amy Johnson Crow's 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks project  is Long Line. I had a couple of ideas for this week and finally settled on the long line of extended Call and Joslin family members who immigrated from Devonshire to the United States between the 1830s and early 1900s.  I have to wonder if in 1851 when my great great grandparents Robert Call and Charlotte Joslin were both servants on the farm of Robert Reed in Chawleigh, Devonshire, England if they had any idea how many members of their extended families would immigrate to the United States.  As far as anyone knows, Robert and Charlotte met at the Reed farm. Within two years of the 1851 census, Robert had immigrated to the Boston, Massachusetts area. Charles Joslin Call's Business Ventures in Wichita, Sedgewick County, Kansas, 1889-1895

My great grandfather, Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939), lived in Stafford, Genesee County, New York for most of his life, except for a few years when he and his family lived in Wichita, Sedgewick County, Kansas. I’ve always been curious about the family’s Kansas years, since my grandmother, Evelyn Clara Call (1895-1962) was one of four children born to Charles and his wife Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956) in Wichita. Like many other families, the Call family went west in search of greater economic opportunities. According to Elizabeth, “In the Spring of ’89 Papa [Charles] went West to find a business to engage in. He went to Denver where Uncle Frank and Aunt Sarah were, but decided to go to Wichita and locate. We were very happy there, but business did not pay. We went Apr. 17, 1889, arriving the 19”. 1 Charles’s first business venture in Wichita was with the Wichita Steam Pipe Covering company. On 6 April 1889, C.J. So Far Away - Christmas Day 1887, Somewhere on the Atlantic - Week 5 of #52Ancestors

I can't imagine what Christmas Day was like for my great-grandfather Wilhelm Friedrich Georg Schickler in 1887. What I do know is that he was 14 years old. His parents were dead.  He was on the ship Rotterdam a day out of the port of New York. And that he was traveling alone to a new life. Was he thinking of his family so far away in Stuttgart? Was he wondering how his younger brother Georg - his only living sibling - left behind in Stuttgart with their grandparents was doing? Was he remembering his father and five siblings who had died in recent years? Was he thinking about his mother who had died just a month ago on November 24? Or did he see the Statue of Liberty as his ship arrived? Was he looking forward to a new life with his mother's sister and her husband?
