Clarissa Kellam was born 9 March 1833, daughter of John Kellam (1787-1874) and Jane Ross (1801-1856). She died  20 September 1882. She was a paternal aunt of Mary Jane Kellam. 


March 10 Mothers Birthday  Feb 4 1924 Died

Frances Maria Shafer was born 10 March 1846 in Andes, Delaware County, New York, daughter of Philip Shafer (1795-1873) and Sarah Melvina Benedict (1805-1880). She married John Ross Kellam on 27 Mary 1872 in Long Eddy, Sullivan County, New York. She died on 4 February 1924 in Auburn, Cayuga County, New York. She was Mary Jane Kellam's mother. 

F.M. Shafer , Fly Mountain, NY

Francis Marion Shafer was born 10 March 1846 in Andes, Delaware, New York, son of Philip Shafer (1795-1873) and Sarah Melvina Benedict (1805-1880). He married Lucelia Adelaide Sedgewick (1842-1910). He died on 29 July 1897 in Kingston, Ulster County, New York. He was Mary Jane Kellam's maternal uncle, her mother's twin brother. 

March 11 - Hilda Harding 1909

Hildur Frances Harding was born on March 11, 1909 in New Jersey, daughter of Floyd Harding (1876-1948) and Clara Belle Kellam (1883-1966). She married Alton Thomas Rodger (1904-1967) on 1 February 1930 in Suffern, New York. She died on 17 April 1944 in Clifton, Passaic, New Jersey. She was Mary Jane Kellam's niece. 



March 14  Auntie Doyle, 1823

Carmitha Kellam was born 14 March 1823 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Kellam (1787-1874) and Jane Ross (1801-1856). She married John Doyle (1823-1892). She died on 11 November 1900 in Wayne County, Pennsylvania. She was Mary Jane Kellam's paternal aunt. 



March 18  Uncle C.B. Shafer Kingston, NY

Colonel Benedict Shafer was born on 18 March 1827 in New York, the son of Philip Shafer (1795-1873) and Sarah Melvina Benedict (1805-1880). He married Jane Frances Cornell (1837-1900) in 1859. He died 23 October, 1909 in Kingston, Ulster, New York. He was Mary Jane Kellam's maternal uncle. 


March 20  Eva A. Layton

March 21  Mrs. D.L. Kellam. Little Equinunk

Sylvia Brisack was born 21 March 1831 in Hampden, Delaware County, New York, the daughter of John Brisack and Caroline Tiffany. She married David Layton Kellam (1833-1895) in about 1855. She died on March 24, 1909 in Damascus, Wayne County, Pennsylvania. She was the wife of Mary Jane Kellam's first cousin once removed. 




March 29 - L.B. McCabe, Andes, NY

Levi B McCabe was born 29 March 1828 in New York. He married Sarah C Shafer (1832-1900). He died on 6 July 1888 in Andes, Delaware County, New York. His wife Sarah Shafer was Mary Jane Kellam's maternal aunt.

   I recently received a set of recipe cards from a cousin that were written by out grandmother Evelyn Clara (Call) Hankins, probably between 1920 (when she married) and 1962 (when she died). My grandmother was born in Wichita, Sedgewick, Kansas in 1895. Within a few months of her birth, the family moved back to Stafford, Genesee County, New York where her parents, Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939) and Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956) were born. Evelyn lived in Stafford on the family farm until she left for college, first at Northwestern University in Chicago and then at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She graduated from Cornell in 1919 with a degree in Home Economics. After graduating, she worked for a year at Wells College in Aurora, Cayuga, New York, possibly as the Superintendent of a Dormitory, as a housekeeper or as a teacher.   The fifteenth photo in the album is Mary Ellen (Ross) Hankins (1835-1914), wife of Lucas Wurtz Hankins.  Mary Ellen Ross was born 25 August 1835 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Ross (1791-1837) and Sarah Kellam (1797-after 1850). She married Lucas Wurtz Hankins (1831-1910), son of John Hankins (1803-1847) and Susan Thomas (1811-1885) on 5 August 1857 at the home of Benjamin Tyler. Lucas and Mary Ellen had three children: Laura Ardella (1858-1859) Howard Ross (1863-1922) married first Emma M. Adding a Citation to a Document using Photoshop Elements 2023

This is the first is an occasional series of blog posts on using Photoshop Elements 2023 for genealogists. Many of my genealogist friends know I'm also a photographer, so have asked me how I do some things with genealogy-related images. The problem is - I use Photoshop and Lightroom - which are probably overkill for most genealogists, and are a subscription-based package. I used to recommend Irfanview (and still do for some things) but I was finding it hard to do some of what I do in Photoshop in Irfanview.  So enter Photoshop Elements 2023 - it has more features than Irfanview but isn't as user-hostile as Photoshop can be. And it's available for purchase as a stand-alone package - no monthly subscription fees!
