Jennie H Florey was born 9 February 1873 in Scranton, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania, daughter of Samuel G. Florey (1834-1922) and Albina C. Jennings (1842-1917). She married Ephraim S Gregory (1872-1929) on 20 February 1925 in Norfolk, Virginia. She died 1 October 1970 in Norfolk. 



February 12  Evelyn C Call 1895

Evelyn Clara Call was born 12 February 1895 in Wichita, Sedgewick, Kansas, daughter of Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939) and Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956). She married Francis William Hankins (1897-1983), Mary Jane Kellam's son, on 31 December 1920. Evelyn died on 10 June 1962.

John Doyle  was born 13 February 1823 in New York, son of John Doyle (1805-1867) and Margrette LaBarr (1809-1871). He married first Mary Tyler, and second Carmoitha Kellam (1822-1900), daughter of John Kellam and Jane Ross, so Mary Jane Kellam's paternal aunt. He died on 17 April 1892. 

Susan Abigail Hankins was born on 13 February 1841 in Hankins, Sullivan County, New York, daughter of John Hankins (1803-1847) and Susan Thomas (1812-1885). She married David Tyler Bush (1841-1876). She died on 22 September 1917 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut. Abbie Bush was Mary Jane Kellam's husband's paternal aunt.

John R Kellam was born 26 February 1873 in Hankins, Sullivan County, New York, son of John Ross Kellam (1830-1903) and Frances Maria Shafer (1846-1924), so was Mary Jane Kellam's older brother. He died in 1875. 


Musette Read Appley was born 27 February 1874 at Cochecton, Sullivan County, New York, the daughter of William W Appley (1847-1930) and Mary G Barlow (1849-1926). She died on 5 June 1949 in Callicoon, Sullivan County, New York. Looking at the birthday book, I expected to find an 1891 death date for Musette. According to her obituary shared at FindAGrave, Musette Read Appley, who died in 1949, was born on February 27, 1874. I think it unlikely there were two Musette Appley's born on 27 February 1874, so I don't now what the 1891 refers to.

Elizabeth Ann Hankins was born 27 February 1929 in Dunellen, Middlesex County, New Jersey, the daughter of Francis William Hankins (1897-1983) and Evelyn Clara Call (1895-1962). She was Mary Jane Kellam's only granddaughter. Elizabeth married Richard Carl Wolgast (1923-2012) son of William Carl Wolgast (1888-1980) and Helen Siefert (1893-????). on 26 June 1949. She died on 13 October 2020.

   I recently received a set of recipe cards from a cousin that were written by out grandmother Evelyn Clara (Call) Hankins, probably between 1920 (when she married) and 1962 (when she died). My grandmother was born in Wichita, Sedgewick, Kansas in 1895. Within a few months of her birth, the family moved back to Stafford, Genesee County, New York where her parents, Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939) and Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956) were born. Evelyn lived in Stafford on the family farm until she left for college, first at Northwestern University in Chicago and then at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She graduated from Cornell in 1919 with a degree in Home Economics. After graduating, she worked for a year at Wells College in Aurora, Cayuga, New York, possibly as the Superintendent of a Dormitory, as a housekeeper or as a teacher.   The fifteenth photo in the album is Mary Ellen (Ross) Hankins (1835-1914), wife of Lucas Wurtz Hankins.  Mary Ellen Ross was born 25 August 1835 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Ross (1791-1837) and Sarah Kellam (1797-after 1850). She married Lucas Wurtz Hankins (1831-1910), son of John Hankins (1803-1847) and Susan Thomas (1811-1885) on 5 August 1857 at the home of Benjamin Tyler. Lucas and Mary Ellen had three children: Laura Ardella (1858-1859) Howard Ross (1863-1922) married first Emma M. Adding a Citation to a Document using Photoshop Elements 2023

This is the first is an occasional series of blog posts on using Photoshop Elements 2023 for genealogists. Many of my genealogist friends know I'm also a photographer, so have asked me how I do some things with genealogy-related images. The problem is - I use Photoshop and Lightroom - which are probably overkill for most genealogists, and are a subscription-based package. I used to recommend Irfanview (and still do for some things) but I was finding it hard to do some of what I do in Photoshop in Irfanview.  So enter Photoshop Elements 2023 - it has more features than Irfanview but isn't as user-hostile as Photoshop can be. And it's available for purchase as a stand-alone package - no monthly subscription fees!
