Wells College, Aurora, New York - 1919 - pages 182-183

I'm very lucky to have several of my grandmother Evelyn Clara Call's (1895-1962) photo albums. And perhaps even luckier that she labeled many of the photos - so I know roughly when and where they were taken, and who was in the photos.

My grandmother attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1915-1916, and then Cornell University in Ithaca, New York from 1916-1919.

Pages 182-183 contain photographs of Wells College in Aurora, New York where Evelyn worked after graduating from Cornell

My grandmother, Evelyn Clara Call (1895-1962), worked at Wells College in Aurora, Cayuga County, New York in 1919-1920 after graduating from Cornell University with a degree in Home Economics.  It's not exactly clear what her job at Wells College was. A September 1919 newspaper article reports that she was the Superintendent of the dormitory at Wells College. [1] A second article from September 1919 reports she was an assistant to the superintendent of domestics at Wells College. [2] The 1920 census lists her occupation as housekeeper at Wells College. [3] A July 1920 newspaper article reports she had been teaching at Wells College. [4]

Whatever her exact job title, Evelyn lived in house full of people associated with the College. May Smith, the Superintendent of the Domestic Office, headed the household. Also living there were married pastry cooks Oscar and Jennie Folts,  waitresses Mabel Swartwood and Ann McCloy, laundress Bridget Fitzgerald, librarian Alice Sanborn, teachers Emily Gregory Hickman and Beatrice Muriel Abbot, and students Mirelle Dalma and Rose Alice Marguerite Bowcebaigter.
