Early 1900s Call Album - Page 5
Sometime in about 1904, someone in my grandmother Evelyn Clara Call's (1895-1962) family started taking photographs and placing them in an album. My grandmother was nine in 1904, so she could have been the photographer. Or it could have been one of her parents Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939) or Elizabeth Ann (Coe) Call (1861-1956). Most of the early photographs are of family gatherings and places someone visited. I believe by about 1911, my grandmother was taking the photographs. There are photos of her classmates at Batavia High School and groups of teenage girls.
The Call family live in Stafford, Genesee County, New York. They had a cottage at Silver Lake in Wyoming County. So many of the photos were taken in these locations.
Several of the photographs on page 5 were taken in July 1904 around the time of Robert Call and Charlotte (Joslin) Call's Golden Wedding Anniversary.

Charlotte Joslin was born 25 May 1834 in Filleigh, Devon, England, daughter of Robert Bird Joslin (1801-1881) and Mary Ann Adams (1808-1871). She married Robert Call on 16 July 1854 in Fitchburg. She died on 27 September 1908 in Stafford. Their children: Albert Henry Call was born 24 March 1857 in Burlington, Middlesex, Massachusetts. He married Effie May White (1862-1935) on 19 December 1878. He died 6 September 1934 in Batavia, Genesee, New York. Charles Joslin Call was born 28 March 1859 in Stafford. He married Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956) on 5 November 1884 in LeRoy, Genesee, New York. He died 12 June 1939 in Stafford. Elizabeth Alberta Call was born 12 July 1862 in Stafford. She married Walter Scott Daniels (1863-1918) on 12 March 1891 in Stafford. She died on 30 December 1929 in Morganville, Genesee, New York. Their grandchildren. He died 26 November 1944 in Batavia. Archie Duane Call was born 12 July 1881 in Stafford. He married Mabel Elizabeth Westbrook (1881-1966) on 9 April 1908 in Genesee County, New York. He died on 2 July 1956 in Stafford. Ralph Merrill Call was born 7 November 1885 in Stafford. He married Edith Harper (1886-1965) on 26 February 1908 in Genesee County. He died 19 January 1959 in Stafford. Mabelle Call was born 23 July 1887 in Stafford. She married Albert Lewis Goff (1885-1971) on 28 March 1928 in Genesee County. He married Lucille Alice Hale (1893-1996) on 1 January 1919 in Fayetteville, Onondaga, New York. He died 9 July 1961 in Batavia. Evelyn Clara Call was born 12 February 1895 in Wichita. She married Francis William Hankins (1897-1983) on 31 December 1920 in Stafford. She died 10 June 1962 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Irving Joslyn Call was born 21 July 1900 in Stafford. He married Thelma Louise Keitel (1905-1996) on 22 June 1926 in Albion, Orleans, New York. He died 30 December 1995 in Stafford. Children of Elizabeth Alberta Call and Walter Scott Daniels Charles Clark Daniels was born 25 April 1892 in Stafford. He married Charlotte Louise Armstrong on 23 December 1913 in LeRoy. He died in September 1983 in Batavia. Charlotte Louise Daniels was born 26 November 1893 in LeRoy. She married Frederick William Miller (1895-1978) on 15 October 1921 in Morganville. She died on 18 December 1958 in Holliston, Middlesex, Massachusetts. Rosalind Alberta Daniels was born 31 May 1897 in Morganville. She died 12 July 1990. Frances Emogene Daniels was born 9 December 1903 in Stafford. She married Sydney Loren Smith (1902-1968) on 11 October 1924 in Morganville. She died in August 1984. |

Elizabeth Ann (Coe) Call was born 8 October 1862 in Pavilion, Genesee, New York, daughter of Albert Coe and Deborah Prentice. She married Charles Joslin Call on 5 November 1884 in Stafford. She died 3 November 1956 in Zephyrhills, Pasco, Florida.
Walter Scott Daniels was born 12 April 1863 in Wyoming County, New York, son of Charles S. Daniels and Louise A. Hufteland. He married Elizabeth Alberta Call on 12 March 1891 in Stafford. He died 4 May 1918 in Stafford.
William Joslin was born 27 October 1832 in Filleigh, Devon, England, son of Robert Bird Joslin and Mary Ann Adams. He married Charlotte Blackmore (1830-1885) on 24 December 1856 in Chelsea, Suffolk, Massachusetts. He later married Janette L. (Rice) Varney (1838-1930) on 13 August 1888 in Leominster, Worcester, Massachusetts. He died 23 February 1916 in Chelsea.

| Six Joslin Siblings This photo was definitely taken in July 1904, which was the only time the six children of Robert Bird Joslin and Mary Ann Adams who immigrated to the U.S. were in the same place. Their children were William Joslin (standing on the left) Charlotte Joslin (seated on the left) Ann Joslin (seated in the middle) was born 4 June 1836 in Filleigh. She married William Jones (1820-1894) on 2 July 1858 in Chelsea. She dies in Chelsea in May 1917. George Adams Joslin (seated on the right) was born 10 April 1844 in Meshaw, Devon, England. He married Mary Whitford Verran (1841-1908) on 4 September 1873 in Redruth, Cornwall, England. He died on 6 May 1921 in Madison, Dane, Wisconsin. Robert Joslin was born 15 September 1846 in Meshaw. He married Elizabeth Squires (1846-1909) on 9 April 1880, probably in Genesee County. He died 11 February 1914 in Okehampton, Devon, England. Samuel Joslin was born 4 July 1849 in Meshaw. He married Sarah A. Adams (1852-1925) on 1 January 1879 in LeRoy. He died 15 January 1913 in Darien, Walworth, Wisconsin. No photographs of either Robert Joslin or Samuel have been identified. Based on a studio portrait described in a newspaper article of the six siblings, I know that the remaining two men in the photograph are Robert and Samuel. I just don't know which is which. |
