J.B Everett of Waukesha, Wisconsin
One of the photos in my great grandfather's collection of photographs from Keystone Academy in 1889-1891 is identified on the back as J.B. Everett of Waukesha, Wisconsin
Based on what I've been able to find online, I believe James B Everett (abt 1872- bef 1928)
Information about James B Everett was very hard to find. I only found one mention of him in the Keystone Academy catalog - in 1889-90 - as a junior from West Pittson, Pennsylvania
The photograph was taken at the studio of E.H. Paige on Clinton St in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
There is a James B Everett in the Waukesha City Directories from 1891 - 1899, living at the same address as Rev. Peter S. Everett, Maud, Helen and Carl Everett.
So then I went to look in census records and totally struck out. I found Peter S Everett in Waukesha on the 1890 Veteran's Schedule. And Lucy, a widow, in 1900 with Maude, Carl and Helen. But no James in 1900. There is a James (no age specified) in Waukesha Village in 1895.
The only other record of James B Everett I could find as an adult is that he served as Lieutenent in Co. A 4th Wisconsin Infantry in the Spanish American War.
I finally found Peter S Everett in the 1880 Census in Wellsburg, Chemung, New York, age 37 born in New York. With his wife Lucetta age 32 born in Pennsylvania, and children James age 8 born in PA, Maud age 6 born in PA and Carl age 3 born in PA.
So here's what I have for James B Everett
1872 about Born in Pennsylvania. Son of Peter S Everett (1942-1899) and Lucetta M Bartram (1846-1919)
1880 Lived in Wellsburg, Chemung, NY with his parents
1886 - 1890 Peter Everett was a minister in Pittston PA
1889 - 1890 Member of the Junior Class as Keystone Academy
1890 Peter Everett moved to Waukesha, Wisconsin. Listed in the 1890 Veteran's schedule. 1890 May 2 P.S. Everett & wife, James B, Carl S, Maud and Helen are mentioned as arriving at the
Spring City Hotel in Waukesha
1891 A student boarding at 22 Maple Ave, Waukesha Village
1892 44 Maple Ave, Waukesha with Rev Peter S, Maud, Carl
1895 Listed in city directory as Teacher Ind School. Still at 44 Maple Ave
1898 Served as Lieutenant in Co. A, 4th Wisconsin Infantry, Spanish American War
1899 Listed in city directory as Lieut. 44 Maple Ave.
1899 Feb 5 Father Peter died. James listed as a survivor in obituary
1900 Mother and siblings in Waukesha in the census. No sign of James. His mother had given birth to 4 children all still living.
1901 Not in the City Directory
1910 Mother in Waukesha in the census. 4 children all living
1919 Mother Lucetta dies. No obituary found.
1928 Brother Carl dies. Lists two sisters as survivors
So the last record I found for James B Everett was his card in the Spanish American War Index, which has no details on his service dates. He presumably was still living in 1910 when his mother was listed as having given birth to 4 children, all still living. And died between 1910 and 1928, when James is not listed as a survivor in his brother Carl's obituary.
The photograph I have was taken at the E.H. Paige photo studio on Clinton Street, Waukesha, Wis. On the back it says J.B Everett "old chum" 18 Keystone 90. Waukesha, Wis 1891
