Rev. George Joslin - April 1899 - page 1 of Charles Joslin Call and Elizabeth Ann Coe's photograph album

 




The first photograph in the album is of the Reverend George Adams Joslin (1844-1921). He was Charles Joslin Call's maternal uncle, the brother of his mother Charlotte Joslin (1834-1908)

George Adams Joslin was born in Meshaw, Devon, England on April 10, 1844, the son of Robert Bird Joslin (1801-1881) and Mary Ann Adams (1808-1871).  He married Mary Whitford Verran (1841-1908) in Reduth, Cornwall, England on September 8, 1873. George and Mary had three children Mary Ann Joslin (1876-1965), George Stanley Joslin (1879-1952) and Elizabeth Verran Joslin (1887-1971). George died on May 6, 1921 in Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin. 

George Adams Joslin became a Methodist minister in the late 1860s in England. He worked in several parishes in Somerset, Kent, Devon and Cornwall between 1868-1879. In 1881, George immigrated to the United States, arriving on January 3, 1881. His wife and children may have immigrated with him, or followed shortly afterwards. Between 1881 and 1921, George ministered in several locations in Wisconsin, including Trousdale, Pepe, Merrimack, Louisville, Ellsworth, Benton, Fayette, Sparta, and Madison. 

His obituary was printed in the Northwest Christian Advocate, June 8, 1921, p 663.




According to the information on the back of the photograph, it was taken in April 1899. There is no information about who took the photograph or where it was taken.
