More Family Photos - Loose Photos from the Back of the Album

 I'm very lucky to have several of my grandmother Evelyn Clara Call's (1895-1962) photo albums. And perhaps even luckier that she labeled many of the photos - so I know roughly when and where they were taken, and who was in the photos. 

My grandmother attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1915-1916, and then Cornell University in Ithaca, New York from 1916-1919.

In the back of the album are about 50 loose photographs. I'm sharing them in the order they are in the envelope.  Some of the photos date from the 1930s, others from the 1910s and 1920s. Most have no writing on the back, for those that do, I'll include the backs of the images.

Helen Elizabeth Call, daughter of Charles Arthur Call (1885-1962) and Bertha May Hotchkiss (1882-1946), was born 1 July 1910 in Schenectady, Schenectady County, New York. She died 16 January 1997 in Bangor, Penboscot, Maine. 

Marion Amelia Call, daughter of Charles Arthur Call and Bertha May Hotchkiss, was born 26 June 1911 in Schenectady. She died 15 February 2000 in Austin, Travis County, Texas.

Robert Olin Call, son of Charles Arthur Call and Bertha May Hotchkiss, was born 22 March 1919 in Glen Ridge, Essex County, New Jersey. He died 23 March 2000 in Arvada, Jefferson County, Colorado.

Charles Arthur Call, son of Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939) and Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956), was born 8 October 1885 in Stafford, Genesee County, New York. He married Bertha May Hotchkiss on 28 July 1909 in Gainesville, Wyoming County, New York. He died 1 August 1962 in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, New York. 
 
Bertha May Hotchkiss, daughter of Horton Nelson Hotchkiss (1855-1938) and Carrie Adell VanName (1861-1944), was born 11 April 1882 in Arcade, Wyoming County, New York. She died 19 July 1946 in Niagara Falls. 


Alden Malvern Jones

Alden Malvern Jones, son of Malvern Smith Jones (1884-1937) and Edith Alberta Call (1889-1989), was born 17 November 1915 in Batavia, Genesee County, New York. He married Marie Elizabeth Bennett (1917-2001) on 10 August 1940 in Mayfield, Fulton County, New York. Alden died on 17 May 2010 in Utica, Oneida Coutny, New York.

Evelyn Clara Call, daughter of Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939) and Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956), was born 12 February 1895 in Wichita, Sedgewick County, Kansas. She married Francis William Hankins (1897-1893), son of William Lucas Hankins (1872-1930) and Mary Jane Kellam (1874-1944), on 31 December 1920 in Stafford, Genesee County, New York. She died on 10 June 1962 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.

Elizabeth Ann Hankins, daughter of Francis William Hankins (1897-1983) and Evelyn Clara Call (1895-1962), was born 27 February 1929 in Dunellen, Middlesex County, New Jersey. She died 13 October 2020 in California. 

Louisa Ann Call, daughter of Irving Joslyn Call (1900-1995) and Thelma Louise Keitel (1905-1996), was born 12 May 1931 in Batavia, Genesee County, New York. She died 27 November 1975 in Dunkirk, Chautauqua County, New York. 



Ralph William Hankins, Philip Charles Hankins, Elizabeth Ann (Coe) Call, Elizabeth Ann Hankins

Ralph William Hankins, son of Francis William Hankins and Evelyn Clara Call (1895-1962), was born on 5 August 1927 in New York City. He died 21 August 1997 in Schwenksville, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. 

Philip Charles Hankins, son of Francis William Hankins and Evelyn Clara Call, was born 15 May1931 in Plainfield, Union County, New Jersey. He died 10 September 2006 in Bethesda, Montgomery County, Maryland. 

Elizabeth Ann Coe, daughter of Albert Coe (1827-1907) and Deborah Prentice (1833-1910), was born 8 October 1862 in Pavilion, Genesee County, New York. She married Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939) on 5 November 1884 in LeRoy, Genesee County. She died on 3 November 1956 in Zephyrhills, Pasco County, Florida.

   I recently received a set of recipe cards from a cousin that were written by out grandmother Evelyn Clara (Call) Hankins, probably between 1920 (when she married) and 1962 (when she died). My grandmother was born in Wichita, Sedgewick, Kansas in 1895. Within a few months of her birth, the family moved back to Stafford, Genesee County, New York where her parents, Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939) and Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956) were born. Evelyn lived in Stafford on the family farm until she left for college, first at Northwestern University in Chicago and then at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She graduated from Cornell in 1919 with a degree in Home Economics. After graduating, she worked for a year at Wells College in Aurora, Cayuga, New York, possibly as the Superintendent of a Dormitory, as a housekeeper or as a teacher. Mary Ellen (Ross) Hankins (1835-1914)

  The fifteenth photo in the album is Mary Ellen (Ross) Hankins (1835-1914), wife of Lucas Wurtz Hankins.  Mary Ellen Ross was born 25 August 1835 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Ross (1791-1837) and Sarah Kellam (1797-after 1850). She married Lucas Wurtz Hankins (1831-1910), son of John Hankins (1803-1847) and Susan Thomas (1811-1885) on 5 August 1857 at the home of Benjamin Tyler. Lucas and Mary Ellen had three children: Laura Ardella (1858-1859) Howard Ross (1863-1922) married first Emma M. Adding a Citation to a Document using Photoshop Elements 2023

This is the first is an occasional series of blog posts on using Photoshop Elements 2023 for genealogists. Many of my genealogist friends know I'm also a photographer, so have asked me how I do some things with genealogy-related images. The problem is - I use Photoshop and Lightroom - which are probably overkill for most genealogists, and are a subscription-based package. I used to recommend Irfanview (and still do for some things) but I was finding it hard to do some of what I do in Photoshop in Irfanview.  So enter Photoshop Elements 2023 - it has more features than Irfanview but isn't as user-hostile as Photoshop can be. And it's available for purchase as a stand-alone package - no monthly subscription fees!
