From 1936 Diary (1936. square of 44!) As usual, we had New Year's Dinner here. Had twenty three. Lacking were Evelyn's folks, Helen and husband and Alden, eight of them. We had a quiet, pleasant time. January and February in 1936, seem to have been quite uneventful. There was much bad weather. Jan 22 at night was very bad, very cold, the roads were filled with snow. Edith did not get to school the 23-24. "Mon. to Fri Jan 17-20. Very cold, part of the time blustering. Schools did not hold Wednesday-country schools and some children were marooned from home by impassible roads." "Lucile Torrey's husband Arthur Haynes died Jan. 17, after a year's illness." Eileen was taking music lessons of Mrs Miller, Fridays after school. Charles and Irving wired for Electricity a house near Akron, Mr Doktor's Charles prepared for a banquet for the Akron Growers, and wrote and figured on the business of that and his other interests.
