Sun May 5    Frank Hankins came. He showed us some samples of goods he had and demonstrated his way of selling them. He gave a lecture at Cornell Wednesday. 

Tues 7   School meetings Olan Sheffer elected trustee at Stafford. Elbert Torrey without opposition at East Bethany, or Torrey district. 

May 30  Edith's folks started for Royal Oak about 3 A.M. Charles and I picked and arranged flowers for Mother and Father Call's graves and took them to the cemetery. I rode with Chas. to Akron where he delivered the sack of the cucumber seed. Had a fine 65 ct. dinner at Henley's Clarense  Then to a cattle auction, then to Grace Joslin Shaver's. Set out plants till dark. Very happy. A Red Letter Day.

Frank Hankins - Francis William Hankins (1897-1983) son of William Lucas Hankins (1872-1930) and Mary Jane Kellam (1874-1944) He married Evelyn Clara Call (1895-1962) daughter of Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939) and Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956) in 1920. 

Cornell University - Frank W. Hankins spoke on marketing at Cornell University multiple times. In addition to this talk in May 1935, he spoke at Cornell on November 9, 1934 and January 25, 1935.

Olan Sheffer - Olan Newell Sheffer (1903-1982) son of Martin Sheffer (1873-1941) and Mary J Harding (1870-1955). He married Gladys Pauline Call (1909-1933) daughter of Archie Duane Call (1881-1956) and Mabel Elizabeth Westbrook (1881-1966) in 1928

Elbert Torrey - Elbert George Henry Torrey (1902-1953) son of George Horace Torrey (1866-1941) and Jennie May Hurd (1868-1925) He married Marjorie Waterman (1901-1993) daughter of George Waterman (1864-1950) and Jennie Reid (1864-1938) in 1926

Edith - Edith Alberta Call (1889-1989) daughter of Charels Joslin Call and Elizabeth Ann Coe. She Malvern Smith Jones (1884-1937) son of Daniel S. Jones and  Ida May Gardiner married in 1913. She then married Cary Clinton Daniels (1878-1970) son of Clinton DeWitt Daniels (1837-1918) and Lucia Augusta Bryant (1844-1919) in 1945. 

Royal Oak - Edith Alberta Call, Malvern Smith Jones and their family lived in Royal Oak, Michigan from before 1919 until after 1935, Charles Joslin Call and Elizabeth Ann Coe visited their daughter and her family in Royal Oak in 1919 (a few months after their granddaughter Eileen Evelyn Jones was born) and in 1930 (when Evelyn Clara Call Hankins accompanied them). 

Charles and I - Charles Joslin Call son of Robert Call (1831-1913) and Charlotte Joslin (1834-1908). He married Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956) daughter of Albert Coe (1827-1907) and Deborah Prentice (1833-1910) in 1884.

Mother and Father call - Robert Call (1831-1913) and Charlotte Joslin (1834-1908) married in 1854. 

Grace Joslin Shaver - Grace A. Joslin (1885-1969) daughter of Robert Joslin (1846-1914) and Elizabeth Squires (1846-1909) She married Rolla Emerson Shaver (1886-1932) son of Carroll Dwight Shaver (1860-1920) and Jennie M Moorhead (1860-1952) in 1916. Grace Joslin and Rollo Shaver were both physicians. Grace Joslin Shaver was living in Elma, Erie County, New York in 1935.

   I recently received a set of recipe cards from a cousin that were written by out grandmother Evelyn Clara (Call) Hankins, probably between 1920 (when she married) and 1962 (when she died). My grandmother was born in Wichita, Sedgewick, Kansas in 1895. Within a few months of her birth, the family moved back to Stafford, Genesee County, New York where her parents, Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939) and Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956) were born. Evelyn lived in Stafford on the family farm until she left for college, first at Northwestern University in Chicago and then at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She graduated from Cornell in 1919 with a degree in Home Economics. After graduating, she worked for a year at Wells College in Aurora, Cayuga, New York, possibly as the Superintendent of a Dormitory, as a housekeeper or as a teacher. Mary Ellen (Ross) Hankins (1835-1914)

  The fifteenth photo in the album is Mary Ellen (Ross) Hankins (1835-1914), wife of Lucas Wurtz Hankins.  Mary Ellen Ross was born 25 August 1835 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Ross (1791-1837) and Sarah Kellam (1797-after 1850). She married Lucas Wurtz Hankins (1831-1910), son of John Hankins (1803-1847) and Susan Thomas (1811-1885) on 5 August 1857 at the home of Benjamin Tyler. Lucas and Mary Ellen had three children: Laura Ardella (1858-1859) Howard Ross (1863-1922) married first Emma M. Adding a Citation to a Document using Photoshop Elements 2023

This is the first is an occasional series of blog posts on using Photoshop Elements 2023 for genealogists. Many of my genealogist friends know I'm also a photographer, so have asked me how I do some things with genealogy-related images. The problem is - I use Photoshop and Lightroom - which are probably overkill for most genealogists, and are a subscription-based package. I used to recommend Irfanview (and still do for some things) but I was finding it hard to do some of what I do in Photoshop in Irfanview.  So enter Photoshop Elements 2023 - it has more features than Irfanview but isn't as user-hostile as Photoshop can be. And it's available for purchase as a stand-alone package - no monthly subscription fees!
