Thurs July 4    Evelyn and children came. 

August 1935

Sat Aug 10    Frank Hankins came. We had a weiner roast with 29 of us here, but it was rainy and we had to have it in the house. And early

Sun Aug 11  Evelyn's folks started toward Dunellen at 7:30

Fri 16    Fair Week. Charles, who is now working in Akron, found me at the Fair and we were together the rest of the time. A good fair. 

Sun 18  Mrs. Della Jones, Malvern's step mother, came to visit us. She says Robert Jones was 12, Malvern 11, and James was 5 when she married Mr. Jones. Malvern seems very fond of her. I think she has been a real mother to her step children.

Frank Hankins - Francis William Hankins (1897-1983) son of William Lucas Hankins (1872-1930) and Mary Jane Kellam (1974-1944) He married Evelyn Clara Call in 1920. He married Doris Charlotte Pocock (1900-1973) in 1963. He married Gladys E Wilson (1902-1977) in 1975. 

Dunellen - The Hankins family lived in Dunellen, Middlesex, New Jersey from 1927-1936

Mrs Della Jones - Mary Delphine Johnson (1859-1945) daughter of Edward Royce Johnson (1829-1894) and Martha Elvira Dady (1833-1916) She married Daniel S Jones (1853-1923) son of Obadiah Jones (1825-1916) and Sarah Smith (1830-1885) in 1894 after the death of Daniel's first wife Ida May Gardiner (1856-1892) daughter of Robert Gardiner (1832-1918) and Delia (abt 1832-before 1880) in 1892. 

Malvern - Malvern Smith Jones 91884-1937) son of Daniel S Jones and Ida May Gardiner. He married Edith Alberta Call (1889-1989) daughter of Charles Joslin Call and Elizabeth Ann Coe in 1913. 

Robert Jones - Robert Obed Jones (1881-1941) son of Daniel S Jones and Ida May Gardiner, He married Anne May Maltby in 1905

James Jones - James Smith Stewart Jones (1888-1973) son of Daniel S Jones and Ida May Gardiner  He married Mabel Roberts (1892-1977) before 1917

Mr Jones - Daniel S Jones (1853-1923) son of Obadiah Jones and Sarah Smith. He married Ida May Gardiner in 1878 and Mary Delaphine Johnson in 1894.

My Grandmother's Recipes - Sandwiches

   I recently received a set of recipe cards from a cousin that were written by out grandmother Evelyn Clara (Call) Hankins, probably between 1920 (when she married) and 1962 (when she died). My grandmother was born in Wichita, Sedgewick, Kansas in 1895. Within a few months of her birth, the family moved back to Stafford, Genesee County, New York where her parents, Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939) and Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956) were born. Evelyn lived in Stafford on the family farm until she left for college, first at Northwestern University in Chicago and then at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She graduated from Cornell in 1919 with a degree in Home Economics. After graduating, she worked for a year at Wells College in Aurora, Cayuga, New York, possibly as the Superintendent of a Dormitory, as a housekeeper or as a teacher. Mary Ellen (Ross) Hankins (1835-1914)

  The fifteenth photo in the album is Mary Ellen (Ross) Hankins (1835-1914), wife of Lucas Wurtz Hankins.  Mary Ellen Ross was born 25 August 1835 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Ross (1791-1837) and Sarah Kellam (1797-after 1850). She married Lucas Wurtz Hankins (1831-1910), son of John Hankins (1803-1847) and Susan Thomas (1811-1885) on 5 August 1857 at the home of Benjamin Tyler. Lucas and Mary Ellen had three children: Laura Ardella (1858-1859) Howard Ross (1863-1922) married first Emma M. Adding a Citation to a Document using Photoshop Elements 2023

This is the first is an occasional series of blog posts on using Photoshop Elements 2023 for genealogists. Many of my genealogist friends know I'm also a photographer, so have asked me how I do some things with genealogy-related images. The problem is - I use Photoshop and Lightroom - which are probably overkill for most genealogists, and are a subscription-based package. I used to recommend Irfanview (and still do for some things) but I was finding it hard to do some of what I do in Photoshop in Irfanview.  So enter Photoshop Elements 2023 - it has more features than Irfanview but isn't as user-hostile as Photoshop can be. And it's available for purchase as a stand-alone package - no monthly subscription fees!
