August 1937 from the Calls 1935-1943

Aug 2. Evelyn  is very poorly with rheumatism or neuritis and sciatica. We called on Rosalind. She seemed much interested in our trip. Will Prole said "I am glad you are back." It seems that a good many people were afraid we would never get back.

Fri 5. Charles went to Akron for the cucumber business.

Sat 7. Edith and Eileen started for Royal Oak and Cleveland. Edith has goods in R.O. and business concerning their property to attend to.
Helen Hosmer came for flowers for her wedding at 3 to-day.

Tues. 10. Spoke at the W.C.T.U. on our trip first the Temperance side of it, then of the flowers and treets. It was held at Mrs Elbert Torrey's.

Fri 13. Irving had about 100 bean pickers. He sold them at last to a canning factory at a very low price.

Sun 15. Arthur has pictures of the house which has has bought near Niagara Falls. Charles went some days ago to look at it. He talks of shingling it with asbestos shingles.

Mon 16. E and Eileen returned "in fine spirits, and successful in a business way." They cam last night.

Tues 17. Eileen went to Silver Lake where she is to be Councellor for a group of Girl Scouts.

Fri 20, "Alden rode back from Springfield with Robt and Lucille. He has been a helper in a boy's camp up near Laconia, N.H."

Sun 22. Fine dinner with Bertha. "Charles and I drove out to see Carrie. She is well but tires easily." "Doris is in the Hospital 'having some repair work done.' Katherine is abed - high blood pressure, paying a colored girl $1.25 a day."

Mon. 30. I was asked to speak at the Woman's Political Club meeting on our trip. "Talked about some of the difference in Scenery in the East and the West, Mountains, trees, - then shopping in the West, Santa Fe, Mexico, China Town, Tacoma, Yellowstone. Took serape and some toys bought in Mexico. People were very pleasant, said they enjoyed my talk."
