Arthur Sperry Prentice - c 1890-1892 - loose photo in the back of Charles Joslin Call and Elizabeth Ann Coe's Photo Album

Image
The final photograph associated with the album is of Arthur Sperry Prentice, first cousin of Elizabeth Ann Coe. The photograph was loose in the back of the album, rather than in one of the frames on the album pages.  Arthur Sperry Prentice was born on 28 November 1867 in Pennsylvania, the son of Horace Prentice (1842-1901) and Jennie Ellen Sperry (1842-1922). Horace  Prentice was a younger brother of Deborah Prentice, Elizabeth Ann Coe's mother, so they were first cousins on her maternal side. Jennie Ellen Sperry was a half-sister of George W Sperry (1853-1933) who married Mary Isadore Coe, Elizabeth Ann Coe's older sister. So Arthur was not only Elizabeth Ann & Mary Isadore's first cousin, he was also Mary Isadore's half-nephew.  Horace Prentice's family moved frequently when Arthur was young. Arthur regularly stated he was born in Pennsylvania, but an exact location has not been identified. The family has not been found in the 1870 census, but Arthur's s...

Throughout her life, she was active in church activities and with her family. She regularly attended and served as secretary for the Call-Joslin family reunions. in 1942, she showed colored slides of the family at the reunion.  Rosalind Alberta Daniels died on 12 July 1990 and is buried in the Morganville Cemetery.  This photograph was probably taken in 1898 or 1899 based on Rosalind's age in the photograph.  The photograph was taken at the studio of   Philos Beecher Housekneecht (1858-1930) where the photographs of her sib...

Unidentified Woman - c 1880s - page 31 of Charles Joslin Call and Elizabeth Ann Coe's Photo Album

Image
The twenty-sixth photograph in the album is unidentified. There is no information on the back of the photo or the album page to give any hints as to who it is a photograph of.  The style of the card - type of photograph, type of cardstock, border, etc indicate the photograph could have been taken anytime between 1870 and 1900.  The subjects hair and dress would date the photograph to the 1880s.  The photographer, Levi Sherman (1834-1901) was active in Rochester between 1875 and 1896. Between 1881 and 1888, his studio was located at 40 State Street in Rochester, the address on the back of the card. This is the same studio, and the same style of card, that two other photographs in the album were taken at - the 1883 photographs of Sarah Frances Ward  and Ezra Frank Coe.  Previous page in the album: George Coe Next page in the album: Clark & Charlotte Daniels

George Coe (?) - c 1884 - page 30 of Charles Joslin Call and Elizabeth Ann Coe's Photo Album

Image
The twenty-fifth photograph in the album is identified as George Coe (?).  Assuming it is George Coe, the question then becomes which George Coe was a close enough relative to Elizabeth Ann Coe to be included in her photograph album. It was taken in Rochester, Monroe County, New York in 1884.  Elizabeth Ann had three close relatives named George - her uncle, George W. Coe (1831-1906), and her two cousins George Albert Coe (1862-1951) and George Ellsworth Coe (1863-1905). The photograph shows a young man, which would rule out George W. Coe. George Ellsworth Coe lived in Michigan all his life. He married in Michigan in 1884. So while it is possible this is a photograph of George Ellsworth Coe taken on a visit to relatives in Rochester, I think it unlikely.  The most likely candidate for a young man named George Coe to have his photograph taken in Rochester in 1884 is George Albert Coe. He was born on 26 March 1862 in Mendon, Monroe County, New York, the son of George...
