The twenty-seventh photograph in the album is Clark Charles Daniels and Charlotte Louise Daniels, nephew and niece of Charles Joslin Call. 

Walter Scott Daniels (1863-1918) and Elizabeth Alberta Call (1862-1929) were the parents of five children. Their oldest two, Clark and Charlotte are the subjects of this photograph. 

Charles Clark Daniels was born 25 April 1892 in Stafford, Genesee County, New York. He married Charlotte Louise Armstrong (1894-1979) on 23 December 1913 in Genesee County. They had six children: 

  • Ellsworth Scott (1914-2004)
  • Clayton Bage (1917-1986)
  • Walter Armstrong (1919-1949)
  • Lois Anita (1920-1943)
  • Dorothy Rosalind (1921-1988)
  • Alwyn Emmett (1925-2007). 
Charles Clark Daniels died in September 1983 in Batavia, Genesee County. 

Charlotte Louise Daniels was born 26 November 1893 in Le Roy, Genesee County. She married Frederick William Miller (1895-1978) on 15 October 1921 in Morganville, Genesee County. They had one child, Frederick Andrew (1933-1951). Charlotte Louise Daniels died on 18 December 1958 in Holliston, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. 




This photograph dates from September - October 1894. On the back, it states that Clark Daniels was 2 1/2 years old - he was born in April 1892 - so 2 1/2 would be October 1894. It also states that Charlotte Daniels was 10 months old - she was born in November 1893 - so 10 months would be September 1894. 

The photograph was taken at the studio of  Philos Beecher Housekneecht (1858-1930) where the 1880s photograph of Russell, Merrill and Arch Call was taken. The centered monogram on the card does date the photograph to 1899-1894, which is consistent with the reported ages of the children.

   I recently received a set of recipe cards from a cousin that were written by out grandmother Evelyn Clara (Call) Hankins, probably between 1920 (when she married) and 1962 (when she died). My grandmother was born in Wichita, Sedgewick, Kansas in 1895. Within a few months of her birth, the family moved back to Stafford, Genesee County, New York where her parents, Charles Joslin Call (1859-1939) and Elizabeth Ann Coe (1862-1956) were born. Evelyn lived in Stafford on the family farm until she left for college, first at Northwestern University in Chicago and then at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She graduated from Cornell in 1919 with a degree in Home Economics. After graduating, she worked for a year at Wells College in Aurora, Cayuga, New York, possibly as the Superintendent of a Dormitory, as a housekeeper or as a teacher. Mary Ellen (Ross) Hankins (1835-1914)

  The fifteenth photo in the album is Mary Ellen (Ross) Hankins (1835-1914), wife of Lucas Wurtz Hankins.  Mary Ellen Ross was born 25 August 1835 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Ross (1791-1837) and Sarah Kellam (1797-after 1850). She married Lucas Wurtz Hankins (1831-1910), son of John Hankins (1803-1847) and Susan Thomas (1811-1885) on 5 August 1857 at the home of Benjamin Tyler. Lucas and Mary Ellen had three children: Laura Ardella (1858-1859) Howard Ross (1863-1922) married first Emma M. Adding a Citation to a Document using Photoshop Elements 2023

This is the first is an occasional series of blog posts on using Photoshop Elements 2023 for genealogists. Many of my genealogist friends know I'm also a photographer, so have asked me how I do some things with genealogy-related images. The problem is - I use Photoshop and Lightroom - which are probably overkill for most genealogists, and are a subscription-based package. I used to recommend Irfanview (and still do for some things) but I was finding it hard to do some of what I do in Photoshop in Irfanview.  So enter Photoshop Elements 2023 - it has more features than Irfanview but isn't as user-hostile as Photoshop can be. And it's available for purchase as a stand-alone package - no monthly subscription fees!
