Clark Daniels - c 1895 - page 33 of Charles Joslin Call and Elizabeth Ann Coe's Photo Album

The twenty-eighth photograph in the album is Charles Clark Daniels, nephew of Charles Joslin Call.

Charles Clark Daniels was born 25 April 1892 in Stafford, Genesee County, New York, the son of Walter Scott Daniels (1863-1918) and Elizabeth Alberta Call (1862-1929). He married Charlotte Louise Armstrong (1894-1979), daughter of Obadiah E. Armstrong (1865-????) and Ola Etta (1871-????), on 23 December 1913 in Genesee County, New York.

Clark and Charlotte had six children:

  • Ellsworth Scott (1914-2004)
  • Clayton Bage (1917-1986)
  • Walter Armstrong (1919-1949)
  • Lois Anita (1920-1943)
  • Dorothy Rosalind (1921-1988)
  • Alwyn Emmett (1925-2007)
In 1915 and 1917, Clark listed his occupation as farmer in Stafford. In 1920, the family was living in Leicester, Livingston County, New York, where Clark listed his occupation as carpenter in a salt mine. By1925, the family was back in Stafford, where Clark once again was listed as a farmer. In 1930, the family was still in Stafford, where Clark worked as a carpenter in an Insulator factory. And in 1940, he worked as a Packer at Lapp's Insulator.

Charles Clark Daniels died in September 1983 in Batavia, Genesee County. Charlotte Louise Armstrong died in June 1979 in Batavia.

This photograph likely dates from about 1895. Clark appears older than he did in the 1894 photograph of Clark and his sister Charlotte.

The Little Lord Fauntleroy look he is wearing in the photo was very popular in the late 1880s into the 1890s. The wicker chair is very typical of studio furniture of the 1890s.

The photograph was taken at the studio of  Philos Beecher Housekneecht (1858-1930) where the photograph of Clark and his sister was taken. The centered monogram on the card does date the photograph to 1899-1894.

Given Clark's age in this photograph, it would seem that Philos Housekneecht used the centered monogram style on his cabinet cards a bit longer than most other photographers.
