May & June 1938 from The Calls 1935-1943
May 5-10, Had gardened quite a lot. Dug plants - for Evelyn and started early for Evelyn's. It was a ride even more delightful than usual with trees and shrubs in bloom. Ralph has been seriously ill with pneumonia since April 26, but was enough better so Charles carried him in his arms (wrapped in blankets) when Evelyn went for him May 6th. We had waterlilies and other plants to put in. We did a good lot of gardening while there, and Eve. cut and nearly made two dresses for me.
Ralph doesn't make an awful lot of work. He stayed in bed. He reads a good deal and sometimes plays games. We carried home plants and a quantity of out grown children's garments etc., and my new dresses.
Sat May 21. Apple blossom festival at Le Roy. Bertha, Helen, Jerry, R.O. and Adelle here, and we went together to Le Roy.
Thurs 26. Dr. Geo. Warren's funeral at Ithaca. Irving and Mr Torrey went. Many people here are his ardent admirers. Our boys especially so, perhaps.
Mon 30. Memorial Day. Edith, Chas, the children and a bunch of young people went to The Cottage to clean. They were to finish cleaning before dinner, then stay and picnic till dark.
Sun June 12 "Children's Day. The Junior Choir is their blue robes, had a good deal of the program. Louisa and Junior took a creditable part."
Mon 13 Edith has been president of her Teacher's Club for a year. They had their picnic meeting here. Many enjoyed the garden, and I gave plants to some. It was cool and they had their business meeting in the house.
Fri 17. Edith's Sunday School Class of Le Roy, Mr Sharp teacher, met here to-night. Charles counted 62, with their families. They were interested in the garden, especially in lighting the gas plant. They stayed out, even for their business meeting. It was real pleasant.
Mon 21 Edith been preparing to take Tourists - Sign up the 18th, four pleasant people to-day, more the 22nd.
Sun 26. Baccalaureate sermon for eleven High School graduates, all members of our Church, Thelma says,
