Photos from Cornell University - Sigma Kappa, Michigan Game, Sage hall - 1916 - pages 47-49

I'm very lucky to have several of my grandmother Evelyn Clara Call's (1895-1962) photo albums. And perhaps even luckier that she labeled many of the photos - so I know roughly when and where they were taken, and who was in the photos.

My grandmother attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1915-1916, and then Cornell University in Ithaca, New York from 1916-1919.

Michigan Game

On November 11, 1916, Michigan traveled to Cornell for their only road game in Ithaca. Prior to this meeting, the teams has played thirteen times previously, with Cornell winning 10 of those games. Cornell won the 1916 game 23-20.

Sage Hall opened as a dormitory for women at Cornell in 1875. According to Wikipedia "When the building opened, it offered some of the most luxurious accommodations of any college dormitory in the United States. Residents had access to a swimming pool, gym, botanical conservatory, indoor plumbing, and elegant furnishings. The building contained features that defined it as a residential college (as opposed to a traditional dormitory) such as a dining hall, classrooms, a library, and professorial offices. It could house up to 120 students." (Sage Hall entry at Wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sage_Hall) Sage was used as a residence for students until the 1994-1995 school year.
